Petron Foundation, Inc. (PFI) coordinated one of two maintenance activities for our mangrove site located in Brgy. Salambao, Obando, Bulacan.
In celebration of World Wetlands Day 2025, a total of 80 volunteers from the local government of Obando and Petron came together for a coastal cleanup activity and to plant 1,000 mangrove propagules (Rhizophora and Avecennia sp) to maintain and restore our adopted mangrove site. World Wetlands Day traces its origins to 1971, when environmentalists dedicated a day to emphasize the significance of wetlands to ecological health and environmental conservation.
Petron is currently maintaining the survival rate of 70-80% of planted mangroves at the 10-hectare Obando site. This is part of Puno ng Buhay – Petron’s CSR program which aims to restore and reforest mangroves areas adjacent to our facilities. The program also aims to measure our mangrove sites’ carbon stock and potential sequestration rates through a partnership with UPLB.
